“Pixie Perfect!”

From Walt Disney’s
Peter Pan
1953

Production 50

The decade of the 1950s was a glittering golden age for Disney animation, and Peter Pan, which premiered February 5, 1953, to instant acclaim was one of its most glorious highlights. It was the highest grossing film of 1953 and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival that year. One of the many reasons for its tremendous and enduring appeal was its unforgettable array of characters. From Peter himself to swashbuckling Captain Hook, the brazenly bewitching bevy of mermaids, spluttering but well-meaning Mr. Darling, all the way to faithful, forbearing Nana, they have become an indelible and important part of our culture. But of them all, only the incandescent pixie Tinker Bell has transcended her film role to become one of Disney's most important icons, a virtual symbol of Disney magic, a status she has held for well more than half a century.

The captivating little sparkler has been turning heads ever since she first fluttered into view, and there has rarely been a better look at her than here, as she flashes into view wearing her happiest expression. Created entirely at S/R Laboratories in Westlake Village, California, under the supervision of Disney Creative Director David Pacheco, every detail of this exquisite image has been created in precisely the same style and manner as the original artwork used in the making of Peter Pan in 1953. Entirely hand inked and painted from the original animation drawing, each cel features 6 ink colors and 9 paint colors milled and matched to the original Disney formulas. Tink's lavish trails of pixie dust are individually hand-inked as well, just as they were in the film. The master Never Land giclée background is printed on fine watercolor paper. Each Courvoisier Studio Replica is one-quarter the size of a standard production animation cel and is punched below the mat line with a miniature animation punch. The art is presented in a traditionally hand-lettered Neilson-Bainbridge Art-Care® mat with the "Original WDP" seal.
