“Let's Go”

From Walt Disney’s
Dumbo
1941

Production 50

Dumbo,
which debuted October 23, 1941, was Walt Disney's fourth feature-length animated film, following Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Fantasia. Produced during the early years of World War II on a limited budget, with a short running time of just over an hour, and with little of the embellishments and effects of its lavish predecessors, Dumbo was carried by a strong, tight story line with deep emotional currents and exceptional characters that made it one of the best—and best loved—animated films of all time.

Ridiculed by nearly everyone and forced to take the part of a clown and jump from a burning building to the jeers of the crowd, Dumbo may be down but he isn’t out, because Timothy and the crows have given him a magic feather and, even more important, confidence. This is the moment. He peers down at the clowns below and then up at Timothy perched in his hat and prepares to take a great leap of faith. Created entirely at S/R Laboratories in Westlake Village, California, under the supervision of Disney Creative Director David Pacheco, every detail of this image from Sequence 20, Scene 28 has been created in precisely the same style and manner as the original artwork used in the making of Dumbo in 1941. Entirely hand inked and painted from the original animation drawing, each cel features 5 ink colors and 20 paint colors milled and matched to the original Disney formulas. The flame effects are completely hand inked from the original drawing as well. The key master giclée background is printed on fine watercolor paper. Each Courvoisier Studio Replica is one-quarter the size of a standard production animation cel and is punched below the mat line with a miniature animation punch. The art is presented in a traditionally hand-lettered Neilson-Bainbridge Art-Care® mat with the "Original WDP" seal.
